Message To Moderator
Dear Moderator,
For my A2 coursework I have worked with Beth Bage to construct a promotional package including a music video, magazine advert and Digipak. We have chosen the song 'Your Song' by Ellie Goulding. Throughout my blog you will be able to view every post I have made and the explanation of each one. To direct you around my blog, I have made tabs at the top of the page for each individual section which includes the following; research, planning and construction, final products and evaluation.
I hope you enjoy looking through our work.
Regards,
Victoria Robinson

Final Cut
This is our final cut, we have added tiny changes which we gained from our audience feedback in the evaluation stage. Although we dropped the song into Final Cut again the song still jumps at certain points, we are unaware of why this is happening. Please be aware that when played through youtube the lip sync is sometimes slightly of due to the site its self.

Audience Profile
Due
to the audience research we are now able to come up with the prefect audience
profile. We found that there were more female respondents than male; most respondents in
16-20 age group, most respondents were presumably students. The most popular
music genres were:
- Pop
- Rock
- Indie
- Dance
- R&B
- Rap
We found that:
· An overall sense of fun is possibly the most
crucial aspect of the typical pop video
· People much prefer videos that challenge
conventions and/or are creative
· People like videos to have a blend of narrative
and performance
· People expect pop music videos to have dancing in
them in some form
·
Pop narratives are expected to be about
relationships
·
People like music videos that have a combination
disjuncture, amplification and illustration of the lyrics of the song in
question
·
Most people watch music videos to be entertained
This
is Beth Gavin. She is seventeen years of age, and is in her second year
at Sixth Form College. She is intelligent, and studies English Combined,
History and Religion, owing to her love of these subjects. In her first year Beth
made lots of new friends and attended many parties where her friends' choice of
music broadened her own so as to include more than her usual selection of
pop and R&B tracks. As a result, she has spent much time on YouTube
watching undiscovered music videos and coming across hidden gems in a variety
of different genres; indie, dance and R&B. Beth has a
musical encyclopaedia at her fingertips in the form of the internet
and will share her favourite songs and videos with her friends on Facebook and
Twitter, who in turn do the same. Her musical taste is ever-evolving and
becoming more refined like most educated young adults.
Beth
uses YouTube to discover new exciting tracks and videos. Beth still has a
passion for today's mainstream artists. Beyonce and Rhianna are her favourites!
It's a must to have close-ups in their latest videos so Beth can model at their
beauty.
Beth
has recently discovered a love for the artist Ellie Goulding hence why we
choose Beth to feature in our profile. Beth loves the way Ellie tackles songs
such as ‘Your Song’ and makes them into her own. She also likes how diverse
Ellie is, Ellie does slow and up tempo songs giving audiences a bit of
everything. Ellie is quickly becoming one of Beth’s favourite pop artists. By
listening to Ellie, Beth has looked to the indie genre and started listening to
artists such as ‘Mumford and Sons’, ‘Ben Howard’ and ‘Passenger’. I have included in this document Beth's day to day playlist.

Rough Cut 3
This is our 3rd rough cut. We are getting close to our final cut. We have again added more clips to the video to make it more visually interesting. We have added our brand logo and name of the song to the video. We still need to drop the song back into the video to make sure it is smooth.

Rough Cut 2
This is our second rough cut as you can see we have added more shots into the video to create a more visual experience. A clip which we have added in still has the sound so we have to mute that in our final cut. The soundtrack is still jumping so we have to try and download the song and drop it into final cut again. We have added a sepia old fashion effect to the music video. We believe this makes the video have a more interesting narrative as if Olivia is looking back in time, we also think it covers the shakiness of the video that we previously had due to the broken tripod. We also need to add the titles to the beginning of the video. After these tasks we are pretty much done.

First Advert Draft

This is our first mock of the advert. We have used this image as the scenery is effective in the background also it ties in with the DigiPak and music video. We have darkened the right side of the image so the white text is more visible. We still need to take the background from our logo an maybe make the writing on the left more visible but apart from that we are pretty happy with the product. We are also going to put a photo of our album cover on the advert as that is what we are advertising.
Font Choices for Advert and DigiPak
Now that we have decided to use our artists original name for our Digipak and Advert and chosen an album title we need to think about the font that we will use to advertise and promote the name across all products. Using Photoshop, we have tried out different font choices to see what style works best.
We narrowed our font choices down to six. We wanted the font to complement the images which were being used within our Digipak and to relate well with love, heartbreak and nature. After experimenting various font styles on photoshop, which is shown in this image above, we finally decided on the font that would fit our genre most best. We have chosen to use the first style of font which is shown above as we think this works very well with our theme and makes the Digipak more visually effective.

7) Back to the start
8) Simple Love (Acoustic Version.
We have came up with these 8 tracks that will feature on our album. These tracks will be presented on the back of the DigiPak. Most of the songs featuring on the album link to love or heartbreak this links to the album name of 'XO' meaning kisses and hugs.

Mock-up Digipak
This is what the DigiPak will look like when there is no CD in the case. The photos that are used in this mock up have now been edited for the final product. Also we need to add the details to the product to finalise it.
DigiPak with CD
This is what the DigiPak will look like with the CD in it. Again the photos are not yet edited as this is only a mock up and a first attempt to see what the images looked like together. These are the edited images for our final product. We have changed the photo that was going to be on the front cover as in the editing stage this image was more effective than the previous image. Also we love how on the front Olivia is looking to the left, and on the back she is looking to the right. We believe this looks visually more effective than our first attempt. We are still yet to put titles and information on the DigiPak
This is the first mock of the DigiPak with the information presented on it. We have chose a stylish slick font colour to complement the photos, we have used plain black colours so it does not clash with the images, however on the back of the DigiPak it is quite hard to read the last track this could be a concern. We will print this version of to see how it looks visually of screen. We also want to get rid of the back ground of the company logo and bar code to make the album look visually attractive. We still need to add more information on the back of the DigiPak other than this we are pretty pleased with the outcome so far.
